Patent landscape reports are vital in identifying white spaces for patentability/practice, monitoring competitive activity, spotting emerging players, etc. However, users do not pay enough attention to the analysis approach used by patent analysts. Most analysts interpret claims broadly based on language in the complete specification, which diminishes the credibility of the findings. An alternative approach is to interpret claims narrowly based on disclosed working examples.
This approach also has limitations.
