A Fortune 50 company in the consumer products space worked closely with the team at SciTech Patent Art during the product development of an insect repellent device.

The team at SciTech Patent Art provided secondary research support during the entire product development lifecycle, i.e. from conceptualization to product launch. The secondary research included both IP and non-IP research. A two-person team was assigned to work full-time for the client. The team conducted multiple studies during the entire product development lifecycle – prior art searches, IP landscape, patentability searches and freedom to operate searches.

An IP landscape study helped identify white-space in the early stages of the project. As with any new product development initiative, new concepts kept evolving rapidly during the process. To keep up with the change in direction, the team conducted multiple searches or repeated analyses. To ensure commercial viability of the new product, a freedom to operate study was conducted.

The technology spanned across three distinct technical domains: mechanical, polymer and packaging. The team conducted searches using multiple databases to search for evolving concepts using a combination of keywords and classification codes. The analysis of relevant patents was conducted by highlighting key features of the technology.
